“You need to be excited by what you do. I feel that every day”.

Hossein is an experienced mechanical and hydraulic engineer with more than 28 years’ industry experience. Although his family wanted him to pursue medicine, he always knew he wanted to be an engineer. Hossein migrated to Australia from Iran and adapted quickly to new cultures and industry standards. He was welcomed to Australia with books on Australian idioms from colleagues and quickly became a Geelong Football Club member but says hard work and keeping an open mind was the key to overcoming the challenges of migration.

Hossein’s experience spans a multitude of sectors including a major international infrastructure projects such as the Shahid Abbaspour 1000MW hydro-power station with four 250MW turbines that required a full 3D model of the underground excavation. The multi-billion-dollar project was built on the side of an existing dam using explosives to excavate huge caverns for the turbines, and while extremely high-risk, Hossein thrived on the complexity and the challenges it provided.

Currently delivering the Queen Victoria Market Renewal Precinct project, Hossein has seen the project through from inception says it is rewarding seeing the project almost at completion. Hossein’s passion for nurturing relationships was critical on this project which required significant stakeholder engagement to meet the high standard of end-user expectation.

Leading the Hydraulic team from a technical perspective, Hossein enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience with his team and instilling in them the confidence to perform at their best to deliver great projects for our clients.
